Can I set up a separate email account for my son and have it forwarded to my existing email address

Yes. To create a new email address you have to create a new user ID. You can create a total of 7 userID's for each Comcast account number. The simplest way to do that is by following the instructions on https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/adding-new-user-names-or-email-addresses for setting up a Viewer user account.

Note that you need to log in with the Primary UserID to create a new user/email address.

The UserID you create is not just a login ID, it's also the first half of an @ Comcast.net email address, so after creating the new ID log in with it and then visit https://connect.xfinity.com/ to activate it.

Once activated, to have a copy of messages received at the new address forwarded to you, on that webmail page click (gear icon) / Email Settings / Mail / Auto Forward. Click the "Enable email forwarding" checkbox, enter your email address, and check the "Save a copy of forwarded emails" check box. To have a copy of messages sent from the new address forwarded to you, click (gear icon) / Email Settings / Mail / Compose, under "Advanced settings", and enter your email address in the "Always add the following recipient to blind carbon copy (BCC)" text box. Then send a test email to the new address to make sure it's working as expected.

@lssmith

I need a user friendly email booklet or manual that shows how each icon and how to use them.

There isn't one of those, but if you hover your mouse over each icon it should tell you what it's for.  Some of them, too, will have a "hamburger" option if you click on it.  Plus, you can click on each icon to see what it does; just hit the back button to go back to the screen.
