Email transfer to yahoo

Do I have to choose yahoo or can I choose another email provider such as Gmail or outlook and have all my emails switched over to them?

... can I choose another email provider ...

Note that, for the moment, migration is optional.

Information on the Yahoo migration can be found at https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/yahoo-email-migration-overview and https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-yahoo-mail/SLN36803.html. Although these do not make clear what happens if you move your mail to another provider, my impression is that, if you do, your Comcast.net email address will no longer work, whereas if migrated to Yahoo, it will.

Although Comcast/Xfinity information stresses the "wonderfulness" of migrating to Yahoo, note that there are drawbacks. These may or may not matter to you:

  1. Yahoo mail has ads. To avoid these you'd need to add an ad blocker, or pay an additional $5/month for Mail Plus
  2. Yahoo mail does not have auto-forwarding, unless you pay the aforementioned $5/month for Mail Plus
  3. Many of the settings users may have made to configure their Comcast.net mail are not available with Yahoo
