Email showing as comcast.com rather than comcast.net

I know someone whose email ends with comcast.net.  Sometimes when he emails me, I hit reply and the message bounces back.  Then I realize he emailed me from his email address EXCEPT it ends with .com rather than .net.  Why does this happen??

Hello @tutorrific, thanks for reaching out for help on our forums! We definitely recommend contacting our Customer Security Assurance Team in order to make sure this is a valid email address or a security concern. Here is the number to reach them 1-888-565-4329.

@XfinityNico LOL it's definitely a valid email address, because first I emailed him at his .net address, and when he replied to me, it suddenly showed up as .com  and I couldn't reply to that.  And I know it was the real person I was emailing with.  So weird.

That does seem pretty weird. Are you able to edit the email address to .net and see if they receive your reply that way? Just as a quick work around to see if you are able to reply at all.

Yes, that's what I do every time now!  Just with this one person!  It works when I correct his email.

Most likely the sender has an email program, app, or device that is misconfigured and indicating that the "From:" address is ".com" when it should be ".net".
