email security
question refers to accessing emails directly on xfinity server vs using outlook on laptop, is xfinity server inherently more secure regarding dangers of introducing a virus on laptop via email attachments, links, etc. or will clicking on wrong thing still infect laptop? I'm guessing it does. Alternatively does outlook provide additional security layering not found on xfinity server? Is one more preferable to use regarding security? thanks.

Once the email is on the email server, it is what it is. Whatever content filtering that happened on Xfinity's end, has already happened when it's sitting in your inbox.
If you then view that in a web browser, it's up to the web browser, and your OS and whatever you have for virus mitigation and whatever exploits that combination is vulnerable to at the time. If you pull that email with an email client, it's up to the email client and the OS, and whatever you have for virus mitigation and whatever exploits that combination vulnerable to at that time.
Best practice? Stay current on OS, anti-virus, and all program updates. Always.
If you click on email links, or open attachments, and expose yourself to a zero day exploit that none of your protection knows about, or are fooled into entering personal information into a malicious web site that "looks an awful lot" like a site you normally use, you can defeat them all.
You really need to avoid links in email. Images can be just as bad. Many email clients can prevent external image content download. Instead, go to a company's web site directly without using an email link if you wish to have contact with them.
