Email profile name change not allowed

I want to change the display name (not my email address/username) that people see when I send them an email.  It used to be how I want it with just the first letter capitalized on each name, but at some point it was changed by Xfinity to all caps. When I get into my account settings, go to Xfinity ID, and try to edit my name, it says my surname is considered profanity.  I'm not going to mention it here, but my surname is not profanity.  It's simply a common adjective that happens to be a negative trait for people.  I can't even change just the capitalization of my first name as it says the surname is still profanity despite not changing it from how it is now with all caps.

I already tried having the people at an Xfinity store change my name for me, but they are limited by the same name settings that I am.  Do I just need to bite the bullet and call the customer service number or can an Xfinity employee on here help alter the name entry rules?  If I have to call in, do I need to mention anything in particular to more quickly get to someone that change the name rules?  Thanks.

  • Sign in to webmail.
  • Click on the gear icon.
  • Choose Email Settings
  • In the left pane, click on Accounts
  • Choose the account in question in the right pane and click on Edit
  • You should be able to change your name for email there

If that doesn't work, post back.

Unfortunately, the only field that I can change under account settings is "account name".  It looks like you would use that if you wanted to assign names to various email accounts if you had more than one.  I tried changing that to my name with the capitalization how I wanted, then sent an email from that address to my work address, but it didn't change the all caps.

There's also a field called "Your name", but it's grayed out and only shows my first name in all caps.  The email address itself is also grayed out, but that's what I would expect.

suniseclipsed - Thank you for giving that a try! I know these settings can sometimes be a bit tricky, so I really appreciate your effort. When you get a chance, please try updating your display name by going to My Account settings — just click your current name in the top-right corner. Then, while composing an email, click the down arrow next to the "From" field and select "Edit names" to change how your name appears on a per-email basis.
Let me know if that works for you or if you run into any issues — I’m here to help!

That works.  Thanks!  I don't think I can do the same using Outlook, but getting the web version to at least show up how I want is good enough for my purposes.

It looks as though this is another thing that the email gawds have decided to sunset in the upcoming move to Yahoo! Mail.  Thomas, suniseclipsed is right, the ability to change anything on that page is now greyed out, so there is no way to make any changes.
