Email problems smtp

I periodically have issues whereby I cannot send and sometimes receive emails for my Comcast account on my iPhone. I get the error: xxxxxx@smtp.Comcast.net is incorrect. I’ve seen the issue mentioned on the forums but did not see a working solution.

Hello, not being able to send or receive emails can certainly get frustrating. You've come to the right place for help. Are you using a third-party app to access your email or the Xfinity Email web portal? Are you able to recreate this error via the web portal? This link will help with access to your email on Xfinity https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/sign-in-to-email-or-voicemail-on-xfinity.

@JPTurkey

You can access your email on the webmail portal at https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/

You will need to sign in, though.

@Again I am able to login to my account through a browser to send and receive email, but this much more cumbersome. I’d prefer to go back to accessing through my iPhone mail app, which is much more convenient.

xxxxxx@smtp.Comcast.net is likely not correct.  It should be xxxxx@comcast.net (or xxxxx[at]comcast.net if the forums software tries to remove it)

@XfinityAlex I’m not sure what you mean by ‘not correct’. This is the exact error I am receiving. Email has worked fine for years, but I recently started receiving the error.

@JPTurkey Neither your email address or your login should be  " [Edited: "Personal Information"]cast.net", they should be [Edited: "Personal Information"].  If you correct that, the issue may go away.

@XfinityAlex I'm going to volunteer my specifications below for fixing this issue for the Mail app on Mac. After struggling with this issue for about 4 hours, regrettably the information out here in the various support threads is partially complete and the security change was not well communicated by Comcast. Your specification of "take the @comcast.net off" above IS necessary to get this to work.Here are the specifications for the settings:

- EACH email account using the third party app (Mail on Mac, in this case) needs a separate outgoing SMTP server created, and specified in the Preferences / Server settings.

- the user name in the SMTP server is the relevant Comcast account name / email address without the @comcast.net.

- the password is what it is for that email account

- for my wife's email account, it was mandatory to

  1. UNcheck "automatically manage connection settings"
  2. fill in 587 in the Port and check Use TLS/SSL (it may have defaulted to that)
  3. Choose "Password" in the Authentication dropdown

- note that I did NOT have to do that setting for my email account, the "primary" one on the account.
