Email name defaults to All Caps and want to change that

I want to make my name in e-mails just have capital letter for first letter of first name and last name.  I can not find anywhere how to do that.  Currently all my emails come from DERRAN [Edited: "Personal Information"] which is very awkward.

Good morning derran. Appreciate the question, and understand how that would be something you want to change. Here is how you would modify that.

Update Account Profile Name
  • Go to Xfinity ID and Security.
  • Click Change display name or Edit Name next to your profile information to update how your name appears across your profile.

Thank you for the information.  I have tried that more than once.  Did it again and it is still not working.  Is there a way for an administrator to override it?

@derran:  You might be fighting a losing battle.

I've been entering my Email Address "capital letter for first letter of first name and last name" for DECADES. Almost ALL email programs, apps, webmail, web addresses on websites, and others seem to convert the address to "EMAIL ADDRESS" (all caps) or "email address" (all lower case).

Few preserve the mixed-case "Email Address" format I originally entered. Fortunately this is entirely cosmetic. I know of no situation where the case of an email address is actually important.

@derran there's nothing else we can do to change these settings if you’re using Xfinity webmail. I'm sorry about that.

@derran I just figured out how to do this after 20 years of having an ALL-CAPS NAME! Usually, it's not a big deal but when you are dealing with certain people/subjects via email and your name is ALL-CAPS IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE YELLING - NO MATTER WHAT. I followed the instructions you were given but was only able to change the ADMIN account, I could not change any USER IDs under admin. Even so, I changed the ADMIN name from ALL CAPS and then checked my email and unfortunately the email name was still ALL CAPS in the inbox. However, I figured out a workaround because the email address I want to change is not the admin account anyway.

Here is the work around fix:

  1. Open your email and click "Compose Email"
  2. Look at the "From line" at the top, your name and email should be populated and right next to your email address look for a tiny upside-down green triangle.
  3. Click the upside down triangle, it is a drop-down menu with three items:
    1. Your name and email (with a green check mark in front of it)
    2. Show Names (with a green check mark in front of it)
    3. Edit Names
  4. Click "Edit Names"
  5. It will open a popup that reads "Edit real names" you will then see:
  6. The "Use Custom Name" section and you'll see your name in ALL CAPS (grayed out)
  7. Click the box to the left of "Use Custom Name" which will allow you to edit the NAME THAT IS IN ALL-CAPS.
  8. Re-type your name with upper and lower case, then save.
  9. When you test it, you'll send an email to yourself and you will see your email popup with ALL CAPS, but do not worry.
  10. Send the test email to a couple of addresses and you'll see that your name will show in the receiver's email box in the format you want "Your Name" instead of "YOUR NAME".
  11. It's a work around, because your email address may still default to ALL CAPS in a To or From line, but that is not what shows up in the inbox.

I hope this helps, I am not kidding when I say I have wanted this changed for over 20 years and saw your post so wanted to share.

Thank you so much.  I have tried multiple suggestions going back to early 2000s and this is the only one that has worked.  I appreciate you sharing your toil and solution as well.

If you are using webmail, click on the gear icon/Email Settings.  Then, in the left pane click on Accounts and in the right pane, choose your email and click on Edit.  You should be able to change it there.  Don't forget to click on Save when you're done.
