Email hacked, password changed and 2 step turned off

This is the 2nd time I caught this lucky very quickly.  Someone was able to hack the account and change the password, turned off 2 step and they put in a new secondary email to get notified.  I never received a push notification text.  How is this acceptable Xfinity?  I have no faith in this service now.

Interesting! Mine was also changed/reset at 11:49 last night. Luckily, I checked my email about 12:10 and saw an email from Comcast stating my password had been successfully reset. Have had computers since 1988 and Comcast since they took over Suscom, probably 30+ years now and NEVER had this happen before.

I called them immediately and a very nice young lady helped me reset it and put 2FA on the account which I had not imposed previously. I then downloaded Malwarebytes and scan showed nothing so I ran Micrsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and it took all night to scan the entire PC, nothing was found. It would appear your situation occured about the same time but a bit more concerning since you already had 2FA enabled?

This is something I would hope Comcast Security should be looking into.

Definitely something Comcast security should be investigating and notifying all concerned.

Add me to the list... there are dozens of people (if not more) over on Reddit that are reporting the same thing.

I'm sorry that happened to you.  Yes, for me 2fa was turned on both times.  It seems that they get into the account and quickly change the secondary notification email and turn off 2fa.  It's very scary and concerning.  We should be getting an approval text/code anytime a new log in is detected.

same here.  I had 2FA installed and it didn't notify me that someone was in my account.  It took far too many agents via chat and phone.  Luckily, the phone person put in an extra step but still couldn't transfer me to a security rep.  Crazy.

Same happened to me today. How does this happen? Are they calling into the help desk and making the change? I don't understand how this happens if I have 2FA turned on both the primary and secondary email addresses.  I talked to two different comcast security reps and the first assured me nothing was compromised (but I received an email that my password was successfully changed. The second person I talked to was also unhelpful on HOW it happened. I would really like to know the how, otherwise what is stopping this from happening again?

@JohnnyRednoulf

since this happened to me twice in the past 2 months and you a few others, it looks like Xfinity has a big problem.  I’m thinking lots of liability and risk of lawsuit for them if they don’t correct the issue.  When I talked to a rep the first, it was extremely unhelpful and frustrating.  I’m glad we are documenting this.
