Let me resapond to this. I received an email and the sender was Verizon Notification. I then created a filter rule looking for "Verizon Notification" and chose discard for the destination. I then went back to my live email inbox and clicked "Mark As Spam" assuming the email would disappear. Many emails have disappeared at this point. This one didn't until the 6th try. That's new (and/or) different.

Exactly what happens when you try to select that option? How are you accessing your email?

@jabelt try specifying the domain verizon.com instead of the displayed name "Verizon Notifications"
