Connection to mail.comcast.net has been reset

Using Thunderbird email I get the above error message multiple time a day when checking email.   They only way for mail to work again is the turn on/off Airplane mode, switch wireless band (2.5 to 5 or visa versa).

This has been happening for the past 2 months now.  It's is not a Thunder bird issue as MS Outlook has the same issue!  Here is the Outlook Test Error when the problem occurs.

comcast email failure.jpg

I have tried incoming servers, imap, pop3, mail.comcast.net and all have failed.

Again, MS Outlook and Thunderbird has the same problem when they can't connect.  Switching bands, Airplace mode off/on, all comes back and works... for a while.   Maybe 2-30 mins later the problem occurs... unable to check and get email.

Finally I think I found the issue with my email using Thunderbird.  This problem started for me in July/August time frame.

Comcast email servers have a problem with IPv6 addresses!  imap.comcast.net

I set Thunderbird to only use IPv4 and it connects and works!  I set it back to IPv6 and it fails!

This is intermittent throughout the day.   But when if fails I can duplicate the problem by enabling IPv6 in Thunderbird and immediately fix the problem by disabling IPv6 in Thunderbird!

Hope this helps.

Because some customers posted some very inappropriate pictures/images all images now have to be approved before they can be shown.  Your image was approved and now shows.

OK, just to let all know this has not really been resolved.  Since the issue happened on 2 different email programs and nobody else was having the issue, it could not be a Comcast problem.  Three things were done but I believe only 1 resolved the issue.

I performed the following, all in about 30 minutes of each other.

1.  Used an Ethernet cable to connect and the issue did not occur, but I suspect this.

2.  Installed a USB wireless adapter but it was too slow, but the issue did not occur here either.

3.  Uninstalled the built in wireless adapter in the laptop.  Rebooted so it would find it again and reinstall the adapter.

After the above, Thunderbird has not failed in over 24 hours running and testing.  Clicking Get Messages works all the time.  Or course MS Outlook works too.

I suspect the uninstall and reinstall of the built in wireless in the laptop fixed the issue.

EDIT - Read Below.  That above did not resolve the issue.

All the above did not resolve the issue.  Comast came out and replaced the physical cable from the box to the house and that appears to have resoloved the issue.

Update- NO this has not resolved the issue!!!!  Read below....
