Changing server info on Outlook 2016

The instructions on how to use MS Outlook program  to get mail after migration to Yahoo says to......

  • Open Outlook 2016.
  • Go to File > Add Account.
  • Enter your Yahoo email address (e.g., yourname@yahoo.com) and click Connect.
  • Enter your Yahoo password (or an App Password if you have two-factor authentication enabled) when prompted.
  • Follow any additional prompts to complete setup.

-----------------

Two things that are really bothering me:

First .. I am not going to be requesting a yahoo.com email acct . I will be using my comcast.net acct serviced by the  Yahoo platform...correct?

Second.. to configure Outlook 2016 for the yahoo server settings .....why do I have to add an account?  I have used Outlook 2016 as my email client for a  very long time so why can't I just go acct settings>server settings and change from the Comcast server settings to the Yahoo server settings?  I don't understand why I have to add another account.

HELP me understand please and thank you

TerriB Yahoo uses different authentication methods, security setting, ports, and sometimes requires a new account authorization process which Outlook may treat it as a different account rather than just an updated server. That is why it asks you to enter the email after clicking add account. The email may still be with us, but it will prompt Outlook to pull from the Yahoo server after completion using their server setting processes.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am not ready to migrate but getting all my issues very clear in my mind to make the process as uncomplicated as possible to avoid snafus. I will still have to input the Yahoo server settings (and what else?) when I add a 'new' account.....right? And ....I don't remove/delete the current account right....just add the new one?

You'd want to verify the correct settings through the Yahoo Mail support as they will have the IMAP and POP access settings to input into Outlook.

I have the IMAP server, authentication/ encryption  settings info from the Comcast migration to Yahoo information. Anything else I will need to put in Outlook  to make it work with Yahoo once I add the new account? Thanks

To my understanding other than the email settings from Yahoo, just the email address and password is the only thing left required to connect your email address to Outlook.
