Can't pop to any comcast.net address, mail.comcast.net pop3.comcast.net and imap.comcast.net

My email client can't access my comcast email anymore; I get a network error message.  When I ping to mail.comcast.net or to pop3.comcast.net or to imap.comcast.net I see that my network is trying to access imap.ge.xfinity.com and times out every time without ever accessin any server. I am using comcast Internet.  And I have tried to ping any mail server at comcast.net from multiple computers without any luck. Problem all week. I use Pegasus email on a windows 7 system.

Their POP and IMAP mail servers and typically not "pingable", and traceroutes to them do not complete. This is (probably) intentional. For me, at the moment ping and traceroute behave this way for the three hostnames you listed, although smtp.comcast.net seems OK. But programs that use these hosts are working with no problems.

 

What "network error message" are you getting? Does the webmail site at https://connect.xfinity.com/ work?

I used to be able to ping to mail.comcast.net whenever a problem arose.  When I try to pop to mail.comcast.net I get a "network error occurred during the connection to the host" error message immediately.  Same with smtp.comcast.net - my client can't connect sending or receiving.  I can check email online but I don't want another web based email service, I want to be able to pop to the account from my computer like old people do....

Request timed out.

What do you get when you open a command prompt and enter

 

        telnet smtp.comcast.net 587

 

I get "220 resomta-ch2-10v.sys.comcast.net resomta-ch2-10v.sys.comcast.net ESMTP server ready" (type "quit" to exit).

Thank you; I tried all that though, and edited the receive email specs to every possiblity the page provided, and I still get timed out. I did a trace route and the request for email seems to be getting lost in a myriad of comcast servers:

That tells you your system is reaching smtp.comcast.net. Either Pegasus is misconfigured or the program isn't working properly. Check your settings against https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email. I'm not familiar with Pegasus so if you can't get it working, I'd suggest looking around for tech support for the program.

Again, most Comcast mail servers don't respond to ping or traceroute, but that doesn't mean they aren't working or that there is some sort of network problem.

 

As a test, you might try a different mail program. Thunderbird seems pretty solid.
