Cannot send email from my ipad but can receive

Hello, suddenly I cannot send email from my ipad ( actually my wife uses it so I really need to get this fixed- we only have the 1 Xfinity email) via the Apple mail app.  This has been ongoing for about a week now. I have looked through the forums and tried all suggestions. I have deleted and re-added the mail app several times.  I have tried changing the SMTP server port to 465 (from 587) several times and get the error after validating " Cannot connect to the outgoing mail server for .....  Clicked on "repair" and no help. I have, of course, shut the ipad down several times.  I got into a chat and they said they were fixing on their end and gave me a ticket number and said I would receive a message in an hour - now at least 4 days ago. cannot seem to navigate back and get a live agent to check on the ticket.  Thanks in advance for any help.  Bob

Continued.  Maybe I should have mentioned that we have used comcast/Xfinity email through several iPads over many years successfully with no issues. I also had it set for POP3 and did not have any option but imap when I tried deleting/adding.
