Cannot create IMAP/SMTP account on MacOS clients - getting "unable to verify account name or password"

I've tried everything I can find online. I've tried creating the account on a totally separate Mac.  All results lead me back to an error message "unable to verify account name or password". I have tried both the mac email client and outlook on computer A and even tried to set the account up on another mac to rule out the actual computer. I have validated that the "Allow access to my xfinity connect email through tird party programs" is selected several times. Email is working fine on iPhone. Help!?

Here are the detailed steps to Direct Message us:
• Click "Sign In" if necessary
• Click the "Direct Message" icon (upper right corner of this page)
• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
• Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list
• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
• Press Enter to send your message
