I received this email as well and realized right away it is a scam. No creditor can "automatically" charge your account unless you allow them. Part of this scam is calling the phone number in the email. Current scams now provide phone number and if you call it, follow their instructions you are authorizing the charge without knowing it. Banks are now refusing to reimbursing consumers for this fraudulent transaction because you "authorized it". I work in the financial world and a lot of this fraud is going on and people are losing a lot of money.

This scam has a new twist....by calling the phone number in the email, they will attempt to get your banking account number, and you will be asked to "press this and press that". By doing that, you are unknowingly authorizing the fee to be processed and deposited straight into the fraudster's account. Since you actually pushed the button to authorize (although you didn't realize you did) some banks are refusing to reimburse consumers because they fell for it and didn't do anything to protect their account information. I work in the banking industry and the stories of lost funds are sad. Always remember NO creditor can automatically charge your account unless you provide your account number and authorize it.

I received a call purporting to be from Xfinity, but with local number and not identified as Xfinity on Caller ID. South Asian accent. He had my Xfinity bill amount and last four digits of the account. He offered to discount my bill by $50 for two years. Catch? I have to give him my bank details so that he can charge the discounted amount. I refused. Question. How did he have my bill and account details (only the last 4 digits)? Was there a data breach at Xfinity that we are not aware. He also had my name and address etc. (which is easy enough to get).

There is a very sophisticated scam that Xfinity customers need to be aware of.
A message is left on the victims phone to call an 800# for 50% off on their Xfinity bill. When calling the number the woman's recorded voice says, "Thank you for calling Xfinity. All calls are recorded for training purposes. We will be with you shortly". When placed on hold the music starts too. All the time mimicking Xfinity calls.
When one of the scammers rep comes on line to explain the promotional deal. The scammer explains that Xfinity and Target have signed a contract to promote Target Gift Cards and the promotional deal is to have the Xfinity service be 50% off for 24 months. To obtain this deal the victim is to pay, in my case, 10 months of the bill which is 50% of the Xfinity bill. The scammer goes on to explain that if the payment is done in the next 2 hours that they will send a $50 VISA debit card.
The saga goes on.
Here are the numbers the scammers use;

NOTE: When calling the 888, 800, 833 # off hours the woman’s recorded voice says “Thank you for calling Xfinity. Our office is closed. Our business hours are from 8am-5pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Friday. Thank you and have a great day.” When calling the 855 # off hours the woman’s recorded voice says “I’m sorry, our office is currently closed. Please call back during normal business hours of Monday through Friday 8am-5pm Pacific Standard Time.”
These scammers are very sophisticated.
Xfinity IS NOT protecting their customers from scammers.

Got a voicemail from [Edited: "Personal Information"] stating my Comcast account is eligible for 50 percent off. I was to call [Edited: "Personal Information"] to get discount. I called. Spoke to a woman (not from around here) who explained that it is promotion for 24 months. No contract. Bill would be 69.99 monthly.
Here is catch: I would go purchase an AmEx card at grocery for $350. Then call [Edited: "Personal Information"] to give them the AmEx details. This pays the bill for 5 months. After 5 months I would be billed $69.99 monthly for remaining 19 months.
Sounded sketchy. Turns out, it is a scam. Wanted to share all details. Good luck.
