Adding Comcast email to Outlook
On Feb 2, 2024, my comcast email stopped updating in Outlook 365. After researching and trying a number of suggested fixes, I finally took some advice and deleted the comcast email from Outlook, intending to reinstall it. I tried verifying that I could log in to my comcast email through a web browser, but Xfinity would not let me log in without changing the password - which I did today. Since changing the password, I have re-logged in multiple times on the browser, so I know the username and password are correct.
I have tried repeatedly to re-add the comcast email back into outlook. But after adding the correct password during setup, and getting the "we're getting things ready" message in outlook, a popup quickly comes up asking that I enter user name and password for the following server:
Server imap.comcast.net
The next field is pre-populated with my comcast username
and the final field also appears to be pre-populated with the password.
(FYI – I’ve tried just using the pre-populated as well as manually entering the new password). The only two options on this pop-up window to move forward is: "OK", or "Cancel". When I click OK, the pop-up goes away for a second, then reappears. Clicking OK again, and it comes right back. (Note: I experienced this similar pop-up some time ago, and the fix ended up being that comcast had made a change to privacy settings and I had to go in to my comcast email and allow third party access. This problem acts the same way, with the same pop-up window as was appearing previously, but I've checked and that third party access is still checked in my Xfinity mail account settings - but it's acting the same way with that pesky pop-up immediately coming up asking for username and password). Seems to once again be a change on Xfinity/comcast end – and forcing the email password change that happened at the same time the comcast email stopped working in outlook.
My comcast email was working fine in Outlook until now. Need to know how to fix this access issue and add my comcast email account back into Outlook.
Please help.
Ron.

Hi Xfinity Teams:
I'm also having this issue with my Comcast email account in the Outlook desktop app but can successfully login through Xfinity webmail. My password is updated and the "Third Party Access Security" option is checked, but when I try to add the account back into the Outlook app, the password popup gets stuck in a loop. Thanks in advance.

You have defined my exact problem to a "T". FYI, this same problem is being discussed on the AT&T Community Forums. [Edited: "Solicitation"]

Have same issue with one email. Have tried everything suggested, have allowed third party access. I can set up in new outlook but I don't like it and want to use old outlook. Haven't had any problems for over 20 years and now all of a sudden it won't work. have spoken to both Microsoft and xfinity; each one tells me the other has to fix it. So much for support.

I have the same issue and I have followed all the steps mentioned and the account of COMCAST can not be added to outlook as I receive a pop window that continues to request my credentials in a loop. I deleted the comcast account as the suggestion of the specialist since it would not download new emails and now I can not even download. This happened after COMCAST added the THIRD PARTY SECURITY feature. I am seeking a clear response on why the addition of COMCAST account in outlook while I can add other email providers.

I'm having the same issue. I'm about to kiss Comcast email goodbye, it takes too much of my time up trying to get it to work with Outlook or on my iPhone. Neither work.

Yes I've had this happen at least 3 times since New Year (2024). Each time it goes down for 3 days and then starts working again. Things I've noticed:
1. This seems to be related to possible updates by Comcast to their email systems which seem to have an effect on the 3rd Party checks.
2. Changing your password doesn't seem to do anything to alleviate this.
3. Unchecking and rechecking the 3rd party box may be the key.
I have comcast mail on my PC/Laptop and Android and Ipad. All are effected in the same way.

I switched back to legacy Outlook and poof, suddenly everything works with my Comcast email! My guess, is that either Comcast or Microsoft changed something, didn't tell anyone or didn't test it, rolled it out, found the mistake and didn't want to admit it, and quietly fixed it. This seems to be going on a lot lately with a lot of the software and service providers. For example, one day my Canon printer stopped working with my Mac. Amazingly timed with an OS update on the Mac - got in touch with Apple and they said "Canon must have changed something", got hold of Canon and they said "Apple must have changed something"... so I switched to a different printer I have on my network. Five weeks later I gave it another try and miraculously, everything now worked. The question for this specific issue of Comcast email with New Outlook is, "Who will fess up they are the problem and will they ever tell their user base when the problem was found and fixed?"

I have started to have the exact same problem, and it occurs intermittently. I am fairly knowledgeable and have done everything that has been suggested above. Occasionally it works for awhile then occurs again with no rhyme or reason. It's getting very frustrating esp. when it works then you need to respond to something latter in the day, and poof nothing works. With SO many people having the same problem, you would think that it would be fixed by now. I need my email, and my other accounts work just fine. We both know it's Comcast, so how do we fix it, or is it intentional?

I have given up on Outlook, especially now that it has started showing ads. I have moved to the open source K-9 Mail app.

Okay, this is wild, to me at least anyway. I couldn't receive comcast account emails this morning via IMAP to MS Outlook 365 client. Didn't change anything and all had been working well for a long time now. I tried troubleshooting to no avail. Called MS Outlook 365 support who tried a few things, most relating to setting up email account settings via IMAP and POP3 to no avail, and informed me it's a problem on Comcast's / Xfinity's end. Called Xfinity with no luck. Nice customer service rep wasn't familiar with Outlook 365 email or why this might be happening, so no help there. Read a bunch on this forum, especially this thread, which implicates WiFi security on Xfinity's end that the user can't control, see, or access. So I tried connecting my desktop PC having this problem to my phone hotspot instead of my Fios router (my ISP), and voila, emails started downloading! Better yet, when I switched back from the phone hotspot to my Fios router, it still works. Go figure. For me at least, this definitely appears to be a Comcast / Xfinity 3rd party email client access via WiFi security setting problem related to software updates they're making on their end. Unfortunately it appears we're going to have a hard time finding anyone at Xfinity that knows of, can, and will address this problem.

I am having the same issue as of June 11, 2024. I tried all the login options (autopopulate, manual entry). My third-party is checked. I updated passwords today, and none of my Xfinity accounts will login via Outlook. I have been using them in Outlook for years, so nothing has changed on the Outlook side. Unfortunately, I took some online advice and tried removing the account - now I am unable to add it back to Outlook!! So I need a solution for this asap. And BTW, we cannot remove multifactor identification because Xfinity login no longer works for the web or app without it.

I have the same problem today. Just updated account password forced by Comcast. The email account security setting is checked for third party applications and Outlook 365 refuses to add account by redisplaying smtp server login in a loop. I can login into the XFINITY account with the new password no problem and check mail in the browser there but Outlook rejects this email account. Comcast, It worked before you forced us to change password.

I don't use Microsoft 365 and have little experience with all this; however, I did learn that the Xfinity IMAP servers require your Xfinity ID for credentials. So, if your comcast.net email credentials differ, try the Xfinity ID.
