2 Gig plan capped at 1 Gbps — Xfinity-owned splitter rated only 1 GHz, causing massive OFDM errors
Hi, I’m on the 2 Gig (Gigabit x2) plan and consistently capped at ~1 Gbps download with only 40 Mbps upload (plan is 2000/250).
I’ve done extensive troubleshooting on my end and narrowed the issue down to Xfinity-owned infrastructure at my property. Here’s what I’ve found:
The splitter: The 4-way tap serving my address is a Regal RMT2004-RF-14 rated to only 1 GHz. My DOCSIS 3.1 OFDM channel 34 operates at 957 MHz — right at the edge of this splitter’s capability. This is Xfinity-owned equipment.
Modem diagnostics (from MB8611 status page):
∙ OFDM Channel 33 (722 MHz): ~1.97 billion corrected errors, 6 uncorrected
∙ OFDM Channel 34 (957 MHz): ~1.01 billion corrected errors, 75,627 uncorrected errors
∙ Channel 34 power at -4.3 dBmV (all other channels between 1.4–2.3 dBmV)
∙ Channel 34 SNR at 42.4 dB (lowest of all channels)
∙ Repeated CM-STATUS events on channels 193 and 194
∙ Critical T3 timeout logged
∙ Zero OFDMA upstream channels (only 4 SC-QAM)
The 1 GHz splitter is Xfinity-owned and needs to be replaced with a unit rated to at least 1.2 GHz to properly support DOCSIS 3.1 on the 2 Gig tier. Can a technician be scheduled to replace it?
