2 Factor Authentication for Email

I wanted to set up 2FA when someone accesses my comcast email.  I read instructions on the xfinity web pages and set up 2FA.

When I log into my xfinity account on the web, I get a text on my mobile phone.  OK.  But when I access my comcast.net email using my tablet, I do not get a text.  So can email be set up for 2FA??  Or only logging in to xfinity?

0finity Thank you so much for reaching out for help with the two-factor authentication when accessing your email. To be sure you are accessing your email directly from https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/ and the authentication option is not working? Were you by chance logged in already to your email when you made those changes? If so you may need to fully log out and ensure you clear your cache and cookies along with closing all your browser windows to ensure any stored data is cleared. Once that is done try to log in again and let me know if the authentication pops up.

@XfinityAmandaB

You did not read my message.  As I stated: I want to know if there is 2FA for my xfinity email when I use my tablet or iPad.  Using SMTP and IMAP.  My question is NOT about  logging into the xfinity web email.

plumld I understand that you are asking if you can set up 2FA with a third party email client. That is not currently an option provided for third party email accounts. I hope this information helps, please let me know if you have additional questions.

@XfinityBillie you're simply confirming the lunacy of Comcast's requirements! The system is unbelievably setup to require that every user not only own a mobile phone, but to also have it with them at all times! How on earth did this ever come to be part of the design of this system???? Do you and Comcast actually believe that every single subscriber has a mobile phone???? The last thing I'd want is to allow scammers one more path to me, the next time they download the Comcast subscriber database!!!

This thread is the only location I have found that states 3rd party email access does not support 2FA.

To clarify, that would mean that when 2FA is enabled no 2FA occurs for 3rd party emails apps attempting to log in.

Why isn't this fact clearly stated in the description for the check box enabling 3rd party email access?

When 3rd party access check box is enabled, are users alerted when failed attempts to log in occur?

If not, can a bad actor use 3rd party email apps to guess passwords an unlimited number of times without any alerts?
