Xfinity says my phone is unlocked but it is not.

I bought my phone from a wireless company on ebay.  It was a locked phone to Xfinity. About a year later I am thinking about selling it and I called Xfinity to unlock it. I get a email from them saying We received your request to unlock your Xfinity Mobile phone and have completed our part of the process. So I called them because my phone is still showing locked. They told me my phone is unlocked and there is nothing more they can do. If my phone is unlocked why is it showing Sim locked? Anyway how can I know for sure it is unlocked?

Thanks for reaching out to us, this link https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/eligible-to-unlock-phone has great information on how to unlock an Xfinity mobile phone. You mentioned you bought the phone on eBay, being that you did not purchase the phone from Xfinity, if the phone information is showing carrier locked with Xfinity SIM card restriction then  there most likely is a lock on the phone due to an outstanding balance,  as once the customer pays off their phone it's automatically unlocked after 48 hours. Have you tried reaching out to the seller who you bought the phone from to make sure they've paid off their balance and went through the process to unlock their phone before selling it to you

It was a wireless company that  has a brick and mortar store and also sells on ebay. They probably  buy phones in lots. I did reach out to them but they said to contact Xfinity to unlock. They sold it as a locked phone. I was just wanting it unlocked in case I ever wanted to sell it.

user_44e4ec We recommend that you contact the seller and escalate within their team. Unfortunately, we cannot unlock a device unless the account holder who owned the account contacts us and requests the device be unlocked. The device needs to be fully paid off for that to happen but we cannot unlock a device for anyone other than the original account holder.

Well I guess if I sell it I will sell it locked. The company will not know who the original owner as they buy hundreds of phones in lots. It would seem like it is paid for as I have used the phone for over a year plus the company I bought the phone from is a reputable company.

user_44e4ec We are sorry you are in this situation but our unlock guidelines are very straightforward. We apologize that the device you purchased from the third-party company cannot be unlocked. If there is anything we can help you with going forward, please let us know.
