Unknown device

Hello Xfinity,

Are you familiar with a device called “generic brand vendor commscope”? I’ve seen online that people have also encountered this. Are you able to tell me what this is?

I have block/paused the device, and was curious.

user_jx6ah6. That's a great question. CommScope is a manufacturer that produces a variety of telecommunications and networking equipment, including cable modems, gateways, and other network devices. In many cases, when a device appears as "Generic Brand Vendor CommScope" in the Xfinity app, it's simply the vendor name being identified from the device's MAC address rather than a specific product name. Unfortunately, from our side, we can't determine exactly which device it is based on the name alone. If all of your known devices are accounted for and you've paused or blocked it without any impact to your services, that's a reasonable precaution. If you'd like to investigate further, you can compare the device's MAC address in the app to the MAC addresses of your Xfinity equipment and other network devices to help identify it. If blocking the device hasn't affected anything on your network, it's possible that it's an inactive device, a networking component, or equipment that is no longer in use.
