Transfering number to new carrier, question re: device payment plan

My device show that it is Paid in Full, however, the final payment is being withdrawn from my account in 13 days. I've been warned that if I transfer my number to a new account, any promotions will be voided & I will owe for the remainder of the device. I had a 50% off promotion on the device. 

If I transfer my number before that payment comes out of my account, even though my device shows that it is paid in full, will I be penalized?

@Dusten528 You'll have to wait it out until the device is paid off/account fully credited. After that, you need to confirm the device gets unlocked before you can move to a new carrier.
