Transfer port pin

Why is that the only way I can get a transfer port pin for my phone number is going in the store? I can’t receive text messages. I asked can it be sent to my email and was told going in the store is the only other option, this is ridiculous and inconveniencing to me. That’s the reason I’m trying to switch phone companies now. Xfinity representatives only like to hear themselves talk not the customers concerns.
