Trade In Device
I added a mobile line to my account that included purchasing a Google Pixel and trading in a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G. When I added the new line, I provided the trade-in details, including the IMEI number. However, the original Samsung I intended to trade in broke before I could send it back, so I had to get a replacement. While the replacement is the same model, the IMEI is different and doesn’t match the return label for the trade-in. I contacted customer service to see if the IMEI could be updated to reflect the number of the phone they will actually receive, to avoid rejection. Unfortunately, I was told that the only way to keep the promotion would be to return the new Pixel, receive a refund for the taxes and activation fee, and cancel the line. Then I would have to add a new line, where I could set it up as a trade-in and enter the correct IMEI number. This situation leaves me without a phone, as I would need to return my Pixel, get a new number, and start over completely. Is there truly no way to simply update the IMEI number on their records? Having to do all of that just in order for the IMEI number to match is crazy.
