Subject: Wi-Fi Calling Drops After ~10 Minutes on XB8 with Xfinity Mobile

Post:

Hello,

I recently switched from AT&T to Xfinity Mobile and also upgraded my Xfinity Internet equipment from the XB7 gateway to the XB8 (model XB8-T). Ever since the switch, my Wi-Fi calling drops consistently after about 10 minutes—even when sitting 5 feet away from the router with a strong connection.

Important details:

  • On AT&T + XB7, Wi-Fi calling worked flawlessly.
  • Since switching to Xfinity Mobile + XB8, calls drop mid-conversation.
  • Internet speeds are excellent (tested during and after drops).
  • Weak cellular signal in my area means I depend on Wi-Fi calling.

Troubleshooting I’ve already tried:

  • Reset network settings on iPhone
  • New SIM card from Xfinity Mobile
  • Turned Wi-Fi calling off/on again
  • Forced phone to only connect to 2.4 GHz band
  • Tested on 5 GHz as well
  • Reset modem multiple times
  • Ensured iOS and XB8 firmware are up to date
  • Turned Wi-Fi security features on/off in the Xfinity app
  • Contacted both Mobile and Internet support multiple times (each refers me to the other)

What I suspect:

This appears to be a compatibility issue between the XB8 firmware and Xfinity Mobile Wi-Fi calling (possibly related to SIP ALG, firewall handling, or NAT timeouts). The fact that it worked perfectly with AT&T and the XB7 points to the XB8 as the source of the issue.

Request:

Can this be escalated to engineering or tier-2 support? I’d like to either:

  1. Get a firmware fix for XB8 Wi-Fi calling stability, or
  2. Swap back to an XB7 gateway if the XB8 issue is unresolved.

Thank you—I rely on Wi-Fi calling as my only reliable way to make calls from home and I use it for my business as calls as well.

If any Comcast staff are able to escalate this to tier-2/engineering, I’d be very grateful—Wi-Fi calling is my only reliable way to make calls from home.

@user_9i3r6n I’m sorry to hear of the issue you're having while using Wi-Fi calling. Our team is here to help. Your phone must be connected to the Xfinity Mobile network in the United States to set up WiFi calling. WiFi calling cannot be enabled outside of the United States
On iPhones, you must have iOS 11.2 (or higher) and the latest carrier settings installed to use Wi-Fi calling. On Android devices, you must have the latest software and carrier settings installed in order to use Wi-Fi calling.

Wi-Fi calling is available on all Xfinity Mobile devices except Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge, Motorola moto e5 play and iPads. Are you using one of these devices?
