SSN and DOB Asked for during Compatibly test for Xfinity Mobile

Xfinity called me when my place in the phone queue was up.  I had called to see if a new, specialized phone I had purchased for a family member would be compatible with Xfinity Mobile. To run the test they needed the IMEI number from the new phone as well as my SSN and DOB.  They asked me to enter my SSN and DOB on the keypad of my phone.  
Is this a normal practice to ask for my SSN and DOB to run a compatibility test?
