Forced to get new phone

I was forced into buying a new phone when trying to switch from Boost to Xfinity. They said they "couldn't" take phones from other companies sometimes. Sounds like a load of BS to me.

Is this actually a thing or did they scam me?

KidOmega Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forums. We understand your concern about needing to purchase a new phone when switching from Boost Mobile to Xfinity Mobile. We want to assure you that we strive to provide the best possible customer experience, and we apologize if there was any confusion or misunderstanding during the process.

There are a few reasons why a new phone might be necessary when switching carriers:

  • Network Compatibility: Xfinity Mobile utilizes a combination of the Verizon and T-Mobile networks. If your previous phone was not compatible with these networks, it would not be able to function on our service.
  • Phone Lock: Some phones are locked to their original carrier. If your Boost Mobile phone was locked, it would need to be unlocked before it could be used with another carrier like Xfinity Mobile.
  • Device Trade-in Programs: We often offer attractive trade-in deals and promotions that can make upgrading to a new phone more affordable.

We understand that this may have been unexpected, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. We value your business and want to ensure you have a smooth transition to Xfinity Mobile. To help clarify the specific reason in your case, we would be happy to review your account and provide a more detailed explanation of the situation.

We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with excellent service as an Xfinity Mobile customer.
