Early Upgrade Canceled

I upgraded my daughter's phone early and thought I had to have the old phone mailed back by April 4th.  I just received an email saying that my early upgrade had been canceled because the phone wasn't received and that I would be billed for the remaining payment plan balance.  Can I get an extension on the return time and return it this week?
