Device activation

I recently ordered a sim card for my note9. I received the sim today upon activation xfinity said the device was locked by T-mobile.  I contacted T-mobile to get the device unlocked.  T-mobile says it's not locked.  As it turns out the device was locked by sprint and T-mobile can unlock it after it has been activated with them for 40 days. So I would like to change devices
