"Cannot Get Mail"

"The mail server "imap.comcast.net" is not responding.  Verify that you have entered the correct account info in mail settings.  Server code "AUTHENTICATIONFAILED", server message"

When I travel out of the US my xfinity email stops sending/receiving and I need to access it through the xfinity website.  When I get back to the US I delete the app and then reinstall it.  This time I get this error message when trying to reinstall the email address on my mail app on an iphone.

Any advice?

@Waxy Try going into Settings> Apps> Mail and verify your Mail Accounts settings. You should see one listed for your Xfinty email account. If not, add it. If you do see one, perhaps deleting it and re-adding it will solve.

The error you're encountering—"AUTHENTICATIONFAILED" when trying to set up your Xfinity email on your iPhone—can be caused by several factors, especially after traveling internationally. Here's a breakdown of what might be going wrong and how to fix it:

Common Causes & Fixes

  1. Incorrect Mail Settings

    • Incoming Mail Server (IMAP): imap.comcast.net, Port 993, SSL ON
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.comcast.net, Port 587, SSL ON, Authentication required
    • Double-check these settings in your iPhone Mail app.
  2. Third-Party Access Security

    • Comcast/Xfinity may block access from third-party apps unless you enable it.
    • Fix: Log in to your Xfinity account, go to Settings > Security > Third-Party Access Security, and enable access for third-party email clients .
  3. VPN or Blacklisted IP

    • If you're using a VPN (especially after international travel), your IP might be temporarily blacklisted.
    • Fix: Disable your VPN and try again. If that doesn’t help, restart your iPhone and your router .
  4. App or iOS Glitch

    • Sometimes, Mail app or iOS updates can cause issues.
    • Fix: Try a force restart of your iPhone or reset network settings via:
      • Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings
  5. Password or Account Sync Issue

    • Even if your password is correct, the app might not sync properly.
    • Fix: Remove the email account from your iPhone, restart the device, and then re-add the account manually using the correct settings.
  6. Try Webmail First

    • Confirm your credentials work by logging into Xfinity Webmail. If that works, the issue is likely with the Mail app configuration.
