Touch screen communications
Currently the touchscreen has 2 ways to communicate internet and 3g. Since 3g is going to be discontinuted in Dec 2020. I would like to know when Xfinity will be upgrading the touchscreens to LTE? This way they still have 2 options for commincations as was originally advertised when purchased.

Great question! The current technology used for Cellular Backup will be fully functional until at least the beginning of 2022 in almost all areas we offer Xfinity Home. We do have plans for upgrades to make sure the feature continues to work as older technologies are retired.
Rest assured that we will communicate with all customers what those upgrade plans look like well in advance of any potential interruptions to Cellular Backup service. In almost all cases, the upgrade will not require sending a technician to the home. More to come!
Take care and stay safe!

Since I have been in the alarm industy for over 17 years and currently we are using the 3g/4g technology I am fully aware that it will be going away at the end of 2020. So your information that 3g will still work until 2022 is incorrect. Also to make you aware, this will not be a software upgrade, it is a piece of hardware that needs to be replaced. Since the celluar communicator is built into the touchscreen you will need to ship out new touchscreens to all of your customers. This also should be something that is done at no cost to the customer.

Rest assured, we have plans to ensure cellular backup technology remains in place for all of our customers - we won't let this improtant part of our service lapse.
As an example, AT&T has announced that their 3G network will remain operational until 2022. We have agreements with our business partners to ensure connections are not interrupted.
You are correct! Our future upgrade will be a hardware solution, but it will not necessetate the replacement of existing touchscreens in almost all cases, and will be very simple for the vast majority of our customers to complete on their own, and at no cost. Also - some of our newest Touchscreens released earlier this year already include the necessary SIM card to connect to 4G networks.
More to come!
