Smart home light dimmer switch

I installed a Leviton Decora smart dimmer switch back in December, but it could never work with my network. Tried to program it many times but finally gave up, so now it’s just an expensive dimmer switch. When I go on the xFi app, it shows it there, but doesn’t say if it’s in 5ghz or 2.4ghz.
Yesterday I was at the store where I purchased the switch, and he said he had to manually change the setting in the xfinity side for the switch to just connect on 2.4 ghz. I just can’t seem to find where I can do that. I would appreciate the help. Thank you.

Oneomar -

We don't yet support Leviton devices in the Xfinity Home or Xfinity xFi app, but I believe we are working to make certain models compatibe in the near future, which might be why you are seeing your device in xFi.

Not sure if this will work at all or at least temporarily, but if you use an Xfinity Wireless Gateway, this process might force the switch to connect and stay connected to the 2.4Ghz Network:

  1. Delete the Device from the Leviton App - you'll need to get the device into a state where it will need to reconnect to your WiFi network as if it were the first time.
  2. From a computer or device connected to the Gateway, open an Internet browser and access the Admin Tool at http://10.0.0.1.
  3. Once logged in, select Connection and then Wi-Fi.
  4. Select EDIT at the end of the row for the 5 GHz Frequency Band.
  5. Select Disable and then SAVE SETTINGS.
  6. Complete set up of the device using the device’s app.
  7. Go back into the Admin Tool and re-enable the 5 GHz band.

Hope this helps!

Yes, these steps worked for me! I had the 1st gen Leviton WiFi switch (which used both 2.4 and 5 ghz), which are discontinued now. So I got the new 2nd gen Leviton WiFi switch, which only uses 2.4ghz (I don't know why Leviton did that). I followed the steps above.

Thank you!

Glad it worked!

By the way, since I had originally posted the above solution, we do now support some Leviton Zigbee devices directly for Xfinity Home customers through the Xfinity Home App - and soon through the Xfinity App.  Supported devices include:

  • Plug-in Switch (DG15A)
  • In-Wall Switch (DG15S)
  • Plug-in Dimmer (DG3HL)
  • In-Wall Dimmer (DG6HD)

To pair these with your system, tap "Add a Device" at the bottom of the Xfinity Home App's overview screen, and then find the device you wish to pair in the list to get started!

Good to know. I will try if I get another Leviton device.
