Can’t send mail from my Mac’s iCloud account

All attempts to send email from Mac Mail using my iCloud email account fails and has ever since I went with Comcast. My Mac.com account receives email but cannot send mail. Awkward kludge: type my email Reply, save as a draft and send it from my iPhone. Does Comcast have SMTP blocking for my POP server mail account?
