Xfinity tech claimed he won’t be paid because job took too long

This morning an xfinity tech went to my grandmas house to check the coax cable to enable new internet service. The guy had to go in the crawl space and finally figured out which cable to connect. He was there for 1.5 hours. He ends up telling my grandma that because the job went over 1/2 hour that he won’t get paid by xfinity. My grandma asks how much they are supposed to pay him and he tells her $50. Then she proceeds to give him $50. She is in no position to be giving that much money away. Is this true that xfinity won’t pay???? Or is this tech just squeezing money out of customers?
