Xfinity prepaid internet

My modem stopped working..has been going in and out for the last few days...I pay $45.00 a month for this?... customer service says they can send out a technician and charge me $100...... Why?

I've paid my bill every month for the last year... Xfinity won't compensate me for the many hours I've lost on the internet. At at the end of my rope.. Don't know what to do next. I guess I'll be switching to A T & T or some other dependable internet service...any suggestions?
