Xfinity Pod auto Detection

Hello - I understand that the gateway and pod "auto" detect the best connection.  However, that is not the actual case.  I have equipment that is no where need the pod, and it is connecting to pod, causing connection issues.  I will be right next to my gateway, and it still connects to the pod, which is on the opposite side of the house, and in the basement.  Will there ever be the ability to select where to connect devices, since the "auto" connect is not working.  When I test devices, I get poor connection, yet I cannot change it.
