Xfinity merging with AT&T?

Hi-

today my father tried calling xfinity to update a credit card and somehow he was told xfinity and at&t were merging and that he had to cancel the service to xfinity and start a new account with at&t.  The number he called was [Edited: "Personal Information"].  I couldnt find any information to this phone number.  No way this is true? There was a tech coming to his house april 8th to do the change and replace the xfinity router with an at&t one.  Since i found out about this later at night, we called at&t and they do have the order and sadly their sales department was close.   We will be calling at&t tomorrow to cancel that, doesnt make any sense to me why at&t will be merging with xfinity?

was this some kind of scam? just doesn't sound right from the start.

I called because my Xfinity was not working and the person that I spoke with wanted to have me service for ATT by tomorrow.  I do not want ATT, had it and not happy with the service for this area.  What is going on, can we stay with Xfinity?

Good afternoon @user_361ucl, and thank you for reaching out on our Community Forums with your experience to bring this to our attention, we appreciate it. That is definitely strange, to confirm, were you speaking with an XFINITY rep? Did you dial 1-800-XFINITY?

We absolutely want to keep you as a valuable customer and are happy to help with any service issues you are experiencing, can you tell me a bit more about what is going on?
