xFi Complete customers now have faster upload speeds

https://www.xfinity.com/hub/internet/faster-upload-speeds

This page says the following:

Exciting news! Now, eligible xFi Complete customers can receive up to 5–10x faster upload speeds. This is just one step toward providing our customers with next-generation Internet speeds.

Our existing upload speeds give you plenty of what you need to upload files, video chat, and game online. So, what’s the benefit of faster upload speeds? You can do more of what you love.

Plus, as an xFi Complete customer, you’ve got more than just faster upload speeds. In fact, you can enjoy tons of great benefits:

I have called and chatted and no one at Xfinity seems to know or believe that this exists. I had one CS agent say I needed XB8 modem to get these speeds (after spending over 30 minutes convincing her it existed), but they sent an XB7 modem (which I already have).

Does anyone know if it is real and how to actually get the faster upload speeds?

I can understand your confusion. The improvements we are making to provide our customers with the best service are awesome! You can find your upload speed by logging into your account online or in the app. If you are one of the eligible xFi Complete customers you will see your subscribed speed increase on your account and can be confirmed with a speed test.

Is there any way to find out if I am an eligible customer?

That is a great question. If you are one of the eligible customers your upload speed will automatically be adjusted and you will see it on your end with the details of your service.

I have xFi Complete, Gigabit Extra plan and the new XB-8 gateway.  No increase in my upload speed.  When Comcast says "eligible", does that mean this is only being offered in certain areas?

xFi complete is our unlimited plan and also offers great security against cyber threats to your online devices. We do mention that our gigabit extra offers up to 35 Mbps in upload speeds and I have seen higher results. What are your upload speed results?

My upload speed varies between 35 Mbps and 41 Mbps.  That's what it's been for over a year.

We are not on the xFi Complete plan, but would upgrade in an instant if we knew we'd get faster upload.

  • Can you get faster upload speeds on the 600mbps or 900mpbs tiers?
  • What areas are getting these faster upload speeds?
  • Can you use you own modem while on the xFi Complete and still get the upload speed increase?
  • Is it necessary to be on xFi Complete for these faster uploads? Can you use these if you have have DOCSIS 3.1 modem?

I spoke with Rodney on Live Agent Chat:

Rodney: So based on what I'm hearing they are currently testing 200 mbps upload speeds with our new modem the XB8 which comes with our Xfi complete and Gigabit internet speed tier
Me: I see, would the testing be available at our address?
Rodney: I do know that it's just now rolling out so there is unfortunately no way for me to know for sure. I do know that the overall goal is to 200mbps everywhere by the end of this year with 2000 download
Me: I see. And you NEED the XB8 modem? Or just DOCSIS 3.1 hardware?
Rodney: If you have a chance next time you're driving by an xfinity store and they my have a map of the areas in UT that the faster speed available.

I do know that you would need the XB8 due to its wifi-6E technology 😀

I'll say needing a XB8 due to it having WiFi 6E doesn't make any sense.

I would appreciate some informed and accurate answers from Xfinity on these questions.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address? Our team can most definitely take a further look at this issue. To send a "Peer to peer" ("Private") message:

  • Make sure you are signed in here in the Xfinity Forum. Click "Sign In" if necessary
  • Click the "Direct Message" icon (square chat icon in the upper right corner of your screen next to the bell icon)
  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it

After being passed around to several different Xfinity employees (many of which were sure I was talking about their Gigabit x6 service) it sounds like this is a very regional thing.

I couldn't get a straight answer as to whether having the XB8 was a requirement either.

I also came across this post on Reddit where someone asking was told Xfinity’s official website was fake.
It sure would be nice if Xfinity would educate their customer-facing employees before publishing these updates to the public.

Looking forward to my city's municipal fiber.

@XfinityXavier I'm also trying to resolve a similar issue on trying to get the upgraded speeds that 'should' be available in my area.  However, I cant find an icon in the top right even after signing in that say peer to peer chat to submit my name and address information.  Can you help me locate this or give me another way to find out in my area if the upload increased speeds are available before i get new equipment?

Nevermind I was able to get the direct message by disabling it and then re-enabling direct message in my settings and it showed up.

Good afternoon. Please also note that sending unsolicited private messages to myself or any other user is a direct violation of our forum guidelines. You must first create a Public post requesting assistance, and once a Comcast verified employee responds and asks for a private message to be sent, you can then proceed with doing so. This is just a heads up for future reference, but I look forward to further assisting you. While there were speed improvements to some speed tiers in your division, your current tier is not showing as one included.

Hopefully this helps others in our shoes:

XfinityMichelle says:

There is a speed increase with the XFI complete services however, not in all areas and it only impacts the upload speeds not download. You will not require an XB8 to receive the upload speed increase when it becomes available in your area. The upgrades will require an XFI Gateway, meaning our XB6 models or higher. Currently, the increase is only an option in specified states. When the increase becomes an option in your area you will receive notification from us through the notifications preferences you have listed in your account. …

I’m looking at switching to xFi Complete to save $5/mo and then downgrade to their provided modem once I get a notice about the speed increase.

So it is a lie. I see the false advertising. I first do Chat to verify I will get 5-10 x faster upload speed, and to make sure the modern does have a 2.5GB LAN and that I can turn off the wifi feature. They reassure me. Then I call and order it and verify again. I ordered on 8/2/2022. Finally go to store today 8/21/2022 because they didn't ship anything and when I called on line they had no clue what was going on with the order. So I finally go to the store and pick it up. Come home and Install it. What do you know. Only 40mb upload speeds. Check online and my account still says 1200 down and 35 up. So all these people that I chatted with, talked, to and saw in person lied about be being able to get this in our area. It is not like they don't have my address and location.

@user_1d53de Very well said! I work in the information technology field and work from home. I have to log into servers remotely, perform large upload operation and many other tasks that require high bandwidth.

Verizon FIOS offers the same speed for both download and upload. Unfortunately, in my area in the state of Maryland, FIOS isn’t available even though I’m in a newer community (established in 1999) with all power and communication lines underground and now over 3,500 homes. I’m stuck with Comcast which is a monopoly over here. I have the latest hardware and getting 800 down and 24 up. Why is it taking SO long for Comcast to increase their upload speeds?? Very frustrating! XFi has nothing to do with it. It’s an infrastructure change that’s needed.

Yeah their reps are absolutely clueless about this.  I asked about it via chat and they were ready to add it to my bill, but when I called I was told it's not available because I live in an apartment even though I already have the 1200/35 package.  Like uh what?  Out in NOVA with no other competitor in my city so I doubt I'll ever see it.  There's no clear way to see what services and speeds are available, and you have to dig/stumble on the xfi complete stuff because it's not clearly listed in available services.

@rexpowercolt69 The upgraded speeds are available in certain locations and regions. I would be happy to see if they are available where you are.

Please send a private message by clicking the direct messaging chat icon in the upper right corner of the page, click on the pen and paper icon, then enter “Xfinity Support” in the “To” section. Please include your name and address and I'll be happy to help.

"Yeah their reps are absolutely clueless." You could have ended your sentence there and been 100% correct. This company only exists because it has a strong enough lobbying effort to have real or virtual monopolies in most of the places it operates.

Is this being done as a gradual rollout? I'm on xFi Complete with the 600/20 plan on XB7 in the Ft. Myers, FL area, and I haven't gotten the speed upgrade as of yet.

Hello, @Hemingray42 I'd be happy to see if there are plans to upgrade speeds in your area. Can you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

 - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

 - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it

@XfinityYvonne I have completed these steps.  My neighborhood had downtime in the last 2 months for upgrading the service for improved speeds.  I'm assuming that was in preparation for the higher upload speeds.  I contacted via DM support as requested above provided my name and address and the person responded giving details that i need to upgrade xFi with unlimited to get the new speeds.  I did so and picked up the Xfi XB7 modem from my local store and since activation i do not see any increased upload speeds.  Please help.

Thanks,

Kirk

@Hemingray42 Did you get a response from Xfinity if they are brining faster upload speeds to SWFL?  I'm in Cape Coral and lately their 35meg upload just isn't cutting it with our household of four.

Hello, just wanted to post here as well that I am an xFi Complete subscriber and am also wondering what I need to do to qualify for the increased upload speeds, thanks!

Thanks for posting this inquiry! I'm happy to be able to share the good news with everyone. To shed some additional light on a few things, there are certain criteria that would need to be met in order to reach these speeds.

First, you must be located within an area that we've made the next-generation network improvements necessary to support these new speeds. So far, this includes Colorado Springs, CO (excluding Pueblo and Trinidad), the Greater Philadelphia area (who have had the network upgrade), Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Panama City, Florida. This list is designed to be all-inclusive to the improvements we've already made, but it's growing as we continue.

And second, you'll need to have xFi Complete with a compatible DOCSIS 3.1 Gateway (xFi Advanced Gateway).

We’re continuously testing and delivering technologies that provide our customers with improved service, including faster speeds. The best part is that we may increase your speeds at no cost to help us evaluate performance. You benefit from enhanced speeds, and we ensure our technology is performing as expected in real-world environments.

I know this is a lot of information, so if you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to let us know.

How will communication go out once the upgrades have been enabled in a certain area? I live in Houston, TX area and we had received communication ahead of downtime a couple of months ago that they did upgrades preparing for next gen speeds. To this point though we have not heard anything else and even with xfi complete there has been no change in upload speeds and no 2gb tier available.

These are fantastic questions! You would be receiving an email notification when speeds increase and would likely also see it on your billing statement. I know hearing that you'll be able to receive faster and more reliable internet is exciting and we truly appreciate your patience while we continue to make sure that your network will be able to support the speeds.

@PaulusGrandis you need to pray that you're in an area where Comcast feels like they might have some competition and that that area has enough customers for them to care if everyone jumps to the competition. Then, if you're extremely lucky, they might provide a slight speed upgrade.

I would drop them and switch to ATT Fiber with 2x2 speeds and no data cap for less than xfinity if i wasnt in the one subdivision that the lines are buried and att hasnt upgraded yet, unlike everywhere around us. So i wish they would pick up the pace with the uploads at the very least. its not like docsis 3.0 couldnt handle it, part of the problem is they are still kinda using docsis 2.0 a lot for upload...

Hello @Afterlifeisthebest, and thank you for reaching out with such a great question. Please in the future, place all questions you have in your own public post for other customers to find easily that may have the same question. The answer to the question is yes and no. You are able to upgrade with or without it. When your device is outdated, or having problems you can swap it out at any time you like. That is one of the benefits of leasing our device is that you can swap it when needed. You can order a replacement when adding Xfi Complete to the account, or swap it at any point. Please let us know if there is anything more we can help you with today!😀

I also have xfi complete and was just upgraded to the XB7T and 1200Mbps download but my upload still tests out at 17Mbps. I'm in 98338. I'd be happy with a quarter of that download if it meant a significant increase in upload. 1200 down is nice but unnecessary and 17 up is pitiful. What is the deal?

@Dan_SG Comcast is pitiful, that's the deal. When I move having them as the only provider servicing the house will be a 100% deal breaker for me!
