XB8 Order Issue

I was told I would be sent the new XB8 modem but in the Xfinity app it shows the model number of the modem they are sending me is TG4482A which is the wrong one. The model number for the XB8 should be CGM4981COM.  We need this looked into ASAP.  Thanks.

@kparrishwright Hello! Thanks for the post. At this time our XB8 inventory is limited and they are not guaranteed. Even if we try again, you will likely get another XB7 model. I would suggest waiting until there is more in stock so you know you're 100% going to get one of our new XB8s.

So, here we are in July 2023.  I order an XB8 after the chat agent assured me that I would get an XB8 NOT an XB7, which I already have, and Xfinity should know that, but, yes, you guessed it, I received an XB7.....same EXACT model that I already have.  I cannot believe that this CONTINUES to happen this late in the so-called release of this new Gateway.  Well Xfinity, you have paid to have it shipped to me and you will pay to have it shipped back.  How many 1000's of these cases have you had in the past 6-8 months?  I'm guessing thousands of dollars worth of shipping.  No wonder our cable costs went up at the first of the year.  Incompetence is expensive!

Hello @feeln16, thanks for reaching out to express your concerns regarding your XB8 shipment. We completely understand the frustration that would come with receiving the wrong equipment, and I'm sad to see this has been your experience.

Since the full release of the XB8 in April, we have had limited stock of this equipment. While some customers are starting to see the correct order fulfillment, some orders are still being fulfilled with the XB7 modems.

While the warehouse stocks are still low, we did receive confirmation that most local stores are starting to carry the XB8 modems. If the order fulfillment from the warehouse isn't working, and you would like to upgrade your equipment, you could also check your local stores for availability.

This is the party line.  I've read this same response many many times both here and other sites, enough to know this has been ongoing for LONG time.  Still no acceptance, and admittance, of ineptitude and continual errors.  Further, I didn't even mention the other "issue" which I KNOW you are hearing.....the poor decision to actually advertise a product that for the majority of customers, simply isn't available.  And to say they are shipping I believe is nothing short of a lie.  I am a long time customer who, to this point, has been happy with ALL the services I have ordered and received.  But to say I am disappointed...well it should be obvious.

I am sorry you feel this way, it is not our intention to make you feel this way. The Xb8 modem went out of stock really fast, I myself did not get a chance to get one too. I am patiently waiting for the restock to happen. Once it is available again we will notify customers. As my colleague mention as well some stores are carrying limited modems, you can always check and see if they have one available for you.

From what I am hearing, including what I was told by an Xfinity employee, the XB8 is fraught with problems.  I am told the XB7 is way more stable and frankly it's giving me speeds in excess of the 1 gig plan I am on.  So if you're salivating for an XB8, don't.  Be happy with the XB7.  It's fast and, at least for the short time I've had it, reliable.  Having said that, I am still not happy that I cannot use the DNS server of my choice.

PS...I do think Xfinity has jumped the gun in a BIG way by advertising their "supersonic" internet and the new gateway.  The bugs should have been worked out way before the advertisements went on the air.  Now all you have is a bunch of pissed off and/or disappointed customers.  Frankly, it hinges on false advertising in my book.  Just my 2 cents.
