XB6-T gateway emits loud hum & is hot to touch, swapping it didnt fix
I'm a new xfinity customer who received an xb6-t model gateway. I immediatley noticed it makes a loud hum and is hot to the touch. I have it on an elevated surface in an open area, and its not on carpet, so its location is not the issue. I went to the xfinity store and asked for a replacement. They only had xb6-t models available so they gave me an identical unit. It has the same problem. I tried requesting an xb7-t model through the online assistant, but it said because of my 200 mbp plan I can only have the xb6-t. Is this true? The unit honestly seems like it is a fire hazard, plus it only has 2 ethernet ports which is really lame. I'm considering buying my own equipment since xfinity insists I use this hazardous garbage, but I'm worried whatever I buy will be "incompatible" with xfinity and become obsolete after just a year or two.

Hello @Crow4444 with the XB6 there is a fan in the device, and it may be warm to the touch. The XB7 devices are reserved for certain speed tiers available with Xfinity Internet if you are looking to upgrade in the future we can definitely look into that model with you. There is an option for an Ethernet switch that will provide more ports if needed by the user, you would have to purchase the separate device for your needs. You are correct you do have the option to purchase your own compatible device this helpful link https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#unauth will have those listed. We will notify you if/when they become end of life with our services and a new device would be needed to work with our services.
