If I have the X1 Cloud DVR do I need to have the actual physical DVR unit then?

Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out to us regarding your DVR services. The X1 Cloud DVR allows you to access your DVR recordings from mobile devices and computers while connected to any WiFi or mobile network via the Xfinity Stream app or portal. You can also download completed recordings to a mobile device to watch offline when WiFi or mobile networks are not available.

You can also use the Xfinity Stream portal and app to watch thousands of Xfinity On Demand titles and stream any channel in your subscription when you're home. Plus, access tons of TV shows and movies when you're on the go.

You have 150 hours of X1 Cloud DVR storage for each X1 DVR TV Box on your account. If you exceed your limit, your most recent recordings will replace older recordings unless the older recordings are marked as Save for 1 Year. It is required that you have a dvr to use this service.

@XfinityMichelle, The reason I'm asking is because my DVR doesn't work and is making the main HD channels to stutter on and off.  I called for help with it and the agent told me that the device might have to be replaced.  But the funny thing is that if I watch my shows, pre-recorded or live, on the Xfinity streaming portal on my PC it doesn't stutter or lag.   This is why I was confused about the purpose of keeping a DVR when I can use all the features online even if my physical DVR is defective.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us. You still have an active DVR on the account even though the service is not working. You do require an active DVR on the account for the cloud DVR services to function. It does sound like you may be needing a device replacement. So that you can maintain the scheduled recordings and set up new recordings and such. I would love to assist you in troubleshooting further if you would like with the DVR to see if we can reach any other resolution vs a replacement of the device. Would you like to do some further troubleshooting?

I no longer work for Comcast.

I have since replaced that DVR with Xfinity's Flex Streaming services and happier. I have access to tons of movies, TV shows from today and yesteryears.  Thank you for your explanation on DVR technology.  Have a great coming weekend and be safe, wink.
