Wireless Gateway replacement

I got a message sent to my xfinity email saying I need to have my wireless gateway replaced.  It says "We’ve detected an issue with the Wireless Gateway in your home and will replace it at no cost to you. Exchanging your equipment is quick and easy." Is this actually real or is it some type of scam?  What could be wrong with my wifi router, physical hardware damage or some issue with signal strength?  And it says "no cost to you," does this actually mean there will be no hidden fees for this, i.e. my monthly bill will stay the same?

If you are using a Comcast Modem/router gateway, they do send out notifications about them being out of date, and to go exchange it for a newer model. They have sent me messages in the past to upgrade my Modem. Just call comcast, they`ll tell you if it was from them. If you have a local comcast store, you can take it there for the upgrade. I would call first.

Thank you for reaching out to us in the Forums. We do from time to time proactively reach out to our customers who have equipment that has either reached it's end of life, or the equipment has been found to have chronic issues. I can see if you were sent correspondence to replace your modem. Please reach out to me in private by clicking the "chat" icon, and then contact Xfinity Support. When doing so, also include your full name and the address of where the service is at. Thank you for your time and effort.
