Wi-Fi 7 standard Ready Yet?

When will we be able to exchange our Xfinity modems for the new Wi-Fi 7 standard models?

I believe the only WiFi 7 Comcast gateway is the XB10, and it's not available yet. It also has other features like DOCSIS 4.0 support, which is something not even available outside of a few test areas, or even outside of a lab. From one report, it said it MIGHT be available in the second half of 2024. And even then, it may only be available to people in certain areas with the highest-end plans.

Thank you for reaching out to us @user_3tk4ht! I completely understand wanting to have access to WiFi 7, I am also excited for it. Right now there are no updates or estimates to share.

It has been 8 months since this question was originally asked.  Xfinity has had plenty of time.  It is now September.  Has there been any update as to when Xfinity will provide a Wi-Fi 7 standard modem.  It has been out long enough now.  I think the current modems are not up to par with the new tecnology.  I think the current modems are garbage and drop signals ALL THE TIME.  The new standard will take care of this disruption.

False. You clearly don’t understand the .11be spec, which is still in draft. Any 11be hardware out now has implemented the spec in its draft form anticipating there won’t be a change requiring hardware changes. It is wise for a company that intends to manufacture/buy millions of gateways to implement final standards, not drafts. That said, gw hw is in production by the MSO’s OEMs and will have final spec code loaded and then made widely available.

No idea what “drop signals all the time” means, but it isn’t because current gen gateways are garbage. The XBn gateways comcast uses have robust RF and antenna implementations.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for an answer.

cpupro Good morning! Hope you are having a good 4th of July. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to our team. @Andyross was on the right track with it launching sometime later this year. As of now, we don't have a launch date. Please feel free to check back periodically for updates. Have a safe holiday!

Last intel was mid point 2024. Well we are here past the mid point nearing August. The mid point was 6/1/24. Intel suggests initially will be only available to the top tier current XB8 gig tiers?

Feel free to elaborate. Us techies always luv the next best thing. Unfortunately the call centers in India / Phillipines know nada much which is consistant especially in the deeper tech things that long term subscribers are up on.🙋‍♂️ 🤍 🎁

Thanks for your interest in the XB10 modem, timc1475 We have not seen any updates on when this will be available. We will be announcing that when the time comes. We are excited to have it and want to get it to our family members as soon as we are able. We do extensive testing to ensure it will be reliable before we release it.

As noted earlier, odds are the XB10 may only become available in very limited areas, and maybe only those with the newer 2G speeds. They are probably VERY expensive.

If you MUST have WiFi 7 now, buy your own router and put your gateway in bridge mode.

@AndyrossOf course I will wait, we Comcast fan boyz just get giddy upon the approach of new tech. I believe they will swap out my XB8 for the XB10 once available as I have the gig tier. Normally I would not care but my new PC is WIFI 7 (BE) capable. Plus by the time I add up all the WIFI bulbs, & A/C outlets, Security cams, Echo Show Alexa & WIFI exterior path lights on and on = a lot of traffic interconnects... WIFI 6 rocks now, but... 🙋‍♂️👀

Well, I just received a new laptop. Intel(R) Killer(TM) Wi-Fi 7 1750 (BE200) is what's installed on it.

What are we supposed to do now? 😒😒

Awesome! There is lots of cool new tech out there. Right now, the XB8 which is our flagship gateway is supporting up to Wi-Fi 6E with a dedicated 6E spectrum with up to seven additional 160MHz channels. Keep an eye out for when we announce device support for those future capable specs. Typically, when new transmission protocol comes out, it takes time for development and field tests before we roll out to our valued customers.

Hey there, timc1475, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums! I completely understand wanting to make sure you have the latest and greatest gateway! We do not have any details on when our new modem will be available. I would recommend continuing to check out our website for more details!

XB 8 modem has a 2.5gig port which I use in bridge mode with 3rd party router & switches for privacy & speed. I recommend Netgear or Eero for mesh wifi plus 1gig or 2.5gig dumb switches depending on your wired needs.

There are only a few WiFi 7 end devices, but 6E is becoming the standard for 4K streaming & gaming.

I prefer to use Xfinity gear for the modem instead of a 3rd party modem because Xfinity won't provide any security or unlimited data for 3rd party modems. On the flip side, my 3rd party router can focus exclusively on wifi & ethernet and my Xfinity modem can focus exclusively on coaxial voodoo

DOCSIS 4.0 won't greatly improve download speeds, mostly upload, but there'll be big reductions in data loss & lag in both directions. Data transmission normally experiences missing data packets which need to be resent and only takes a millisecond but this can add up depending on the means of transmission. I don't expect to see widespread DOCSIS 4.0 adoption before the end of this decade, mostly only business networks and a few residential communities initially.
