Why would Xfinity tell me that faster internet speeds would use less data?

Here's the transcript:

Hi xxx, thank you for contacting Xfinity. My name is Nandini. How may I help you today?

From You, hi

From You, I got an alert for data usage

From Agent, Hello, how are you?

From You, I had just downgraded the plan and I'm wondering if that's why

From You, I'm good thank

From Agent, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I appreciate you taking time in reaching out to us. I am more than happy to quickly help you. Let me look into this for you.

From You, thanks

From Agent, So, as I checked you only have 75 mbps speed and that could be the reason you reached the maximum limit. There is a cap of 1.2 Terabyte (TB) on internet usage. You can go for unlimited data option however, it will be $30.00 extra on your bill.

From You, is the next plan up for 200mbs have a higher cap?

From Agent, The cap is same for all however, 200 mbps will make it better for the usage.

From You, how so?

From Agent, In 200 mbps speed you can connect more devices

From You, what's that have anything to do with how much data we use?

From You, what's that have to do with data useage?

From Agent, As the speed is fast the usage will automatically decrease.

From You, that's news to me

From Agent, Yes! However, if you want you can add unlimited data as well. Let me know how would you like to proceed?

From You, not sure who told you that, but it's not true

From You, faster data won't mean less data useage

From Agent, It shows the same on your account.

Greetings, @user_ak560u! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum about this interaction. You have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

I can't really picture any scenario where having a faster connection speed would cause you to use less total data. There may have been a promotion that included unlimited data, but that wouldn't really affect the amount of data being used, just the potential extra charges for it.

Regardless, if you could send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you.

To send a Direct Message, please click on the “Direct Message” icon in the top-right corner of the screen, next to the bell icon, click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon, then type or select "Xfinity Support". Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window and press Enter to send your message and initiate a live session.
