Why is tech support trying to get social security numbers!

My mother was in a chat to get her internet connection fixed and the chat person tried to get her to switch her cell phone service! They started asking for her social security number and get her to sign some crazy contract! What the <Edited: Language>!

Hello, user_y9a95k! Thanks for reaching out about your mom's interaction. If your mom was interested in hearing about the prices or further details for the Xfinity Mobile service she would be asked for your SSN and birthdate. That is not setting up an account unless your mom approved an order sent through text or email.

We have promotions that last for a certain time period or device payment plans but no agreements with the Xfinity Mobile service. Would you like me to check on the account with you to ensure that was not set up or did you already verify that with your mom or by logging into the account?

She'll be going into a store tomorrow to make certain that nothing was changed on her account and that a technician was actually scheduled. Xfinity should be ashamed of themselves trying to confuse and take advantage of seniors who are having issues with their service. Her internet service is out so they try to send her an agreement to switch her cell phone service to Xfinity?! How many seniors have you scammed like this! I should report Xfinity to Florida's Attorney general to investigate this shady nonsense.

Thanks for letting me know she will visit the store tomorrow, user_y9a95k. Our Xfinity Mobile service is a great deal! We would bring that up and ask permission before asking for personal details. We have security measures in place with our customer approval program where changes cannot be made without the consent of the account holder, the primary user, or a manager. If you are not already authorized as a Manager on your mom's account, she can add you with these instructions, https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/primary-and-secondary-accounts. That gives you a login for the account and authorizes you to reach out and discuss the account, make changes, set up a visit, etc.
