What if I don't upgrade CM1000?

I received an email: "Reminder: Your internet equipment needs an upgrade"

I'm using a Netgear CM1000 (that I own). I get 940Mbps, and my plan offers 1000Mbps. Good enough.

If I don't pay ~$200 to buy a new modem, will it stop working? or will I just miss out on +60Mbps?

@ore yuuser_0927a1 Your would be informed before your modem would longer be a supported device and the letter would have that messaging included in the body of the correspondence.

The email suggests this is just to get more speed:

You recently upgraded your Xfinity Internet speed, and as a result, your internet equipment can't keep up with the latest speeds available to you. It's time to update your internet equipment so you can enjoy the faster speeds you deserve. With faster download speeds, you will have a better experience as you work, learn, and stream from home.

To get the most out of your internet service, you need to replace your current internet equipment with a compatible device that supports the speeds available to you in your plan. Click below to find compatible devices you can purchase.

Please note, if you do not update your internet equipment, you will not be taking full advantage of the download speeds your internet plan offers.

@user_0927a1 You can look up your Modem at https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices#unauth. When Iook I'm not seeing that your current modem is showing on the list as end of life yet.

I no longer work for Comcast.

@user_0927a1 Thank you for reaching out. It sounds like your current modem is unable to deliver the speed your subscribed to, which could negatively impact your service and network performance. In order to maximize performance and offer the best customer experience, as well as network reliability, we recommend that you either update your device to a Modem or EMTA that is capable of achieving the speeds being delivered or go to a lower speed tier that your modem is capable of.

@XfinityDanielC I think I'd rather keep the existing situation and not pay for a new modem. As I said, I don't mind missing out on an additional 60Mbps.

My question is: can I do that, or will this Modem stop working?
