Upgraded to Gigabit extra and was expecting new XB8, but got XB7

Hello, earlier this week, I upgraded my internet to Gigabit Extra and was told I would be getting new equipment to access the speeds. I figured I was going to get the XB8  since it’s the newest on the market. I received the package yesterday and only got the XB7. Should I take this to the local store and inquire if they have any XB8s in stock?

@user_64d86b thank you for taking a moment to create this post for our Xfinity Community Forum. Congrats on the recent upgrade to Gigabit internet!

On any customer service platform (i.e., phone, social media, chat, store), if a piece of equipment needs to be ordered and shipped to a customer, we can request that the customer's preference be sent, but we cannot guarantee that it will be in stock when the warehouse receives the order. If the warehouse does not have your preference in stock, they will send equipment that is capable of managing your speeds.

Our newest XB8 gateway has been in high demand since it because available a few months back. Due to this, it has been a challenge to meet the demand for them as our customers order them. Our XB7 gateway is an excellent modem/router combo and more than equipped to manage your Gigabit speeds, if you choose to stay with it.

You are welcome to check with a local store to see if they have an XB8 in inventory, but it is unlikely. Our Xfinity Locations are found at this link and you can make an appointment there as well.

Please let us know the outcome and good luck!

Is it possible to check inventory status here? I was unable to go to the store today. I understand the XB7 would satisfy the speeds I am enrolled in but I wanted to have access to the tri-band offering of the XB8 with the Wifi 6E technology. I have seen some older topics also express that the XB7 modems have issues, so I wasn't sure, plus the lack of Wifi 6. Is it possible that I am able to set up my XB7 and also place an order for the XB8? Or will that incur more charges? Thanks for your assistance

@user_64d86b hello. I use to work for Xfinity and it was hard for me to take advantage of the new hardware. I have an XB7 currently and don't believe that model can go up to 1.2Gbps. Have you tried the Xfinity speed test? You will never get 1.2 but should come close on a simple speed test. Yes I would like the XB8 also for the new wireless profiles it supports.

the xb7 can go up to 2.5. At the moment I get 1400 almost 1500mbps sometime. If your devices don't have 2.5 multi gig lan ports you not getting passt 1000 anyway. Everything has to be up to speed to get that speed.

Great questions. Just like any device out there, all makes and models of modem/routers experience an issue from time to time. This does not indicate that all XB7s have issues. I have been using an XB7 in my home (same one) for a couple of years now with zero issues. I've been very pleased with it.

We are not able to see XB8 inventory at the stores at this time. We can put one on order for you here for the cost of shipping, but again, cannot guarantee that you will receive that specific model.

Would you like to try placing an order?

Naw they both will do 2.5gbps, the only difference is the x8 connects up to 100 devices instead of 75
