Unusual data usage in January

Hello,

I have been notified about high data usage in the month of January. I looked at the data from my own router meter and it does match with the data usage reported by Xfinity. However, I noticed an unusual upload data usage compared to previous months.

Would it be possible to help me troubleshoot this issue and identify the potential root cause?

I would really appreciate if you could provide me with a more detailed data usage report for the month of January. It would be helpful to identify if there was any spike in upload during the month.

thanks

@user_cfuro0 Thanks for bringing your usage concerns to our attention. At this time we do not have a way to isolate which device is causing an increase. This is great feedback. I will share this suggestion with my team. If you're familiar with our Xfinity App there's a tab for feedback where you can share this idea as well.  The usage meter shows the overall amount of usage being used.

Watching 30 minutes of web videos via the Watchable app uses approximately 1 GB of data. Listening to 60 minutes of streaming music via the Pandora app uses approximately 60 MB of data. Viewing 20 full-screen photos from Facebook, Instagram, Flickr or Share uses approximately 25 MB of data. By comparison, Netflix estimates about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video.

Some devices and apps continue to run data in the background even though you may be using another apps. I always make sure I am logged out and the app is closed.

I was able to determine it was my sons phones as he didn't close out his apps. We changed the Wi-Fi password and slowly added our devices back to see where the increase was coming from and once we added my sons devices back it spiked again. Are you able to try this for us?

@XfinityKei actually I am not asking you to identify the device. I am asking if you have a more detailed report of data usage over the month where I could see on a daily basis how much data was consumed. This could help me identify if there are specific days where usage spiked and then would help me do my own analysis to find potential culprit on my network.

user_cfuro0 We only offer a cumulative view of the network usage. There are some third party tools out there that you can explore if you would require a more detailed device level breakdown. Here is a breakdown of the Xfinity option to view the total usage. Unfortunately, we do not have a specific recommendation for you on a more robust network data usage monitoring tool. I would honestly just start at the major culprits of data usage, the most common is video game systems, cell phones, and other data intensive devices in the home.

I was just coming here to ask the same thing.  I have had Xfinity for 30+ years and have NEVER gotten a notice about

data usage.  I got one this morning saying I am within 25% of using up my monthly data.  I never even knew there was

a monthly data thing?

To clarify, this is household internet data.  Not data associated with a phone.   We have not done anything different this month.
