Unlimited data with my own equipment

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my plan to include unlimited data. I have a high end modem and router I am using right now and I want to continue using them. If I upgrade to the 1gbps unlimited data plan for 100/month can I leave the Xfinity gateway unused or is it required for unlimited data? I called customer support and they said it was required but I've seen multiple posts online of people saying it is not required and does not need to be used.

Which is correct?

I already have an active service. If I change my plan to the unlimited data plan will I need to reactivate anything? Or will everything be done in Xfinity side and I don't need to do anything just change my plan?

@user_xce9ew, No, you will not need to reactivate anything. When you switch to an unlimited data plan, the change is made on Xfinity's side, and your service will automatically update.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Great question, user_xce9ew! Xfinity’s new internet plans now include unlimited data and equipment at no extra cost with no annual contracts or early termination fees. You can use your own equipment and still enjoy the unlimited data. Previous Xfinity Internet plans include 1.2 Terabytes (TB) of data per month. If applicable, xFi Complete remains available in select markets to purchase unlimited data. Included below is a helpful article with more information.

Can I get Unlimited Data?

Thanks, when trying to move to the unlimited plan I don't see an option to remove the gateway. Does that mean I can just return it when it gets shipped to me and continue using my own equipment with the unlimited data applied?

user_xce9ew - Yes, and you should be good to go if you return the Xfinity Gateway you'll no longer be using. Setting up your own modem is easy, you’ve got this and Xfinity makes it easy:

Check Compatibility
Visit mydeviceinfo.xfinity.comto confirm your modem works with Xfinity.

Download the Xfinity App
Log in and follow the guided setup.

Connect Your Modem
Plug it into the coax cable and power it on.

Activate in the App
Go to Account > Activate Modem, then enter the MAC address.

That’s it! The app will walk you through the rest. I'd be happy to help too!

If you could please send a direct chat message with your full name and complete service address to “Xfinity Support”, I'd be happy to look into this with you. To do so, click on the chat icon located at the top right of this forum's page.

No thank you. I was able to change the plan relatively easy and saw that there even was a step where I could choose to use my own equipment. Sorry for the question. I should have investigated further on my own.
