timing cancellation

I nned to cancel my husbands account that is set up on auto-bill-pay.  He is charged on the 2nd, paper bill says bill date on the 7th, and service from current month on the 12 to the following month on the 11th.  So is he paying a month in advance or current?  Also if service is cancelled the day before billing will I have service for the time already paid?
