Systec Company -- real or fraud?

We called Xfinity to get a tech appointment for a TV issue and got connected to a representative that claimed to be from Systec, a company acting on behalf of Xfinity to schedule appointments. They said the charge was $164.99.

They said the credit card we have on file with Xfinity was declined, asked details for another one (also declined), and then asked for bank and routing numbers. When we refused, they placed a 3-way call to someone they claimed was our bank, who got us to give them our account number. They gave us a direct local phone number (not Xfinity's) to reach them at, and then we got an email from Xfinity saying our password had been changed (we did not ask for that).

All of this  made us suspicious, so we called the bank, found out that there were no declined transactions on either credit card, and no call to the bank about our account that day.

Later when they called to confirm the appointment, they said they were adding 12-months of free service and maintenance. They said the payment would be non-refundable and asked for our approval. We said no, we didn't authorize any payment, did not want the service or the tech appointment, and got transferred to the "manager" who said, in so many words, "I already have all your details and am going to process it anyway."

Is Systec a real company that Xfinity uses to schedule appointments? If so, they are TERRIBLE -- shouldn't ask directly for our bank/credit card details instead of sending a secure link, shouldn't be calling our banks to force us to give account information, and shouldn't be rudely telling us they'll process unauthorized transactions because they have our information already.

If they are not a real company, I'm confused how we got connected to them, since *we* called Xfinity and were routed through the system to these people. Is this a new style of scam we need to be aware of?

We tried calling Xfinity at the number in the password reset email to report that we did not authorize a password change, but could not reach a human. The virtual system was useless in helping report or address suspicious activity, and instead just kept sending us the forgot password link. We ended up having to call the bank to work with the fraud department to stop payment and protect our account. This should not be the experience we have when trying to work with Xfinity.

@rsb1008, Thank you for reaching out through Xfinity Community Forum. I am so glad that you did not give out your banking information. Xfinity will never ask for that information. Systec is not a part of Xfinity. Here is some information that can help you in the future:

@XfinityAngie Thank you for clarifying that Systec is not a real company that Xfinity works with. I'd like to understand how we got connected to these scammers through Xfinity's phone system. We called 1-800-Xfinity, followed the prompts from the virtual assistant, and ended up with the people that scammed us. How could this have happened? And also, what do you suggest so that this doesn't happen to others who call Xfinity?
